What is the Black Gold Cooperative Library System?

Our local library belongs to the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, which was formed in 1964. The system encompasses an area of 8,000 square miles, covering Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties. Over one million people are provided with library services.

The major services are:

Your ability to use the services of all the libraries without charge.

Your ability to ask your local library to borrow a book, magazine, or other material from another System library for your use.

Your ability to request your local library to forward your need for information to the systems reference staff if an answer cannot be found on a local level.
The delivery of requested books and/or materials to your local library.

Implementation and development of automation services and the Internet to locate data banks and information electronically.

Your local library card is the only card you need to use the system. You may present it in any Black Gold library. You may also return your materials at any member library building in the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, as well as to any Ventura County branch library!
