Be Ready to be searched at roadblocks by Federal Policia,and Mexican Army with loaded Automatic Weapons. I travel alone and have no problem with them.
My advice...Have a very positive attitude, be honest, treat them as equals, learn Spanish and know and obey Mexican LAW. Also be aware of the tradition of MORDIDA with the local police and know when to call their bluff and when to pay them to just GO AWAY. Remember, when travelling SOUTH, YOU ARE IN MEXICO, and subject to Mexican Law and Custom.
